Reports were leaked in the past few days of rumours Mariah Carey has recently been in talks with several Broadway producers concerning a stage musical about her life.

Carey has apparently just given approval for the show to go ahead and whispers indicate British singer Leona Lewis may the person to get the nod for playing the diva on Broadway. Lewis, whose music success in 2008 broke records on both sides of the Atlantic, like Carey, has a singing voice with an eight-octave range.

There’s certainly enough fodder for an interesting plot. Second only to The Beatles for US No.1 singles and Billboard’s most successful artist of the 1990s, Mariah Carey’s triumphant highs in the music industry have been juxtaposed with film and music failures (Glitter), divorce (Sony CEO Tommy Motolla) and all too public breakdowns. But will this translate into a critically acclaimed and commercially successful Broadway musical?

Glad I’m not investing in this baby. The stock market’s looking good all of a sudden…
